How to Relieve Anxiety and Achieving Weight Loss Success

Many of us suffer bouts of anxiety, and we know that this can make losing those excess pounds difficult. Suffering from anxiety when we are trying to lose weight is difficult because our body is battling against stress. Severe stress causes an increase in hormones in our body which slows down our metabolism, encourages the formation of abdominal fat, and can cause numerous other health problems.

Although difficult, it is possible to lose weight when we are suffering from anxiety. The trick is to calm, soothe and relieve our body of the stress and anxiety.

Here are some helpful strategies for relieving anxiety and losing weight:

Anxiety and Weight Loss Strategy #1 – Move worries aside.

Usually worrying about problems and issues leads to anxiety, and the more we worry, the more anxious and stressed we feel. Wherever possible, we should try to move aside our worries in order to overcome this habit. There are various ways we can do this, including writing down our worries and reading through them to get them into perspective before throwing them away, or creating a diary into which we can symbolically pour out our worries and concerns. The important point is to purposely divert our focus away from fear and worry to prevent our body from sliding into a state of stress.

 

Anxiety and Weight Loss Strategy #2 – Slow down to calm down.

On many occasions anxiety is caused by our hectic schedules and commitments or feeling under pressure. However, we can overcome this as simply and easily as slowing down our pace each day. Many of us are so accustomed to rushing through our daily tasks that we are unaware of how anxious and stressed it makes us feel until later when we notice how tense and wound up we have become. To resolve this we need to do our best to slow down our pace each and every day. We should slow down the pace at which we walk, breathe deeply, rest more, and keep reminding ourselves that our duties, tasks and commitments will get done in plenty of time so there is no pressure to rush things. By merely adopting a more relaxed frame of mind can inspire an increased feeling of calm.

Anxiety and Weight Loss Strategy # 3 – Relaxants

Some beverages can have a relaxing calming effect on our body and mind. One such example is herbal teas. Camomile for example is a relaxant, calming drink we can enjoy a few times a day without adding unnecessary calories to our diet. Aromatherapy can also be useful for reliving tension, anxiety and stress. We can pamper ourselves with a relaxing aromatherapy massage, or add a few drops of lavender oil to a handkerchief and carry it around in our pocket or handbag. During the day we can take it out every so often and inhale the scent which will help relieve tension and bring about a feeling of calm.

By taking whatever steps we can to reduce our anxiety and stress levels each day, we will help our body to lose weight easier and more effectively.
